This world is a jungle, but only because this is where we learn to behave like animals.

Maybe if we were learning expression, communication, love, and affection rather than mastering manipulation, deceit, treachery, and torture,

Maybe then I wouldn’t have cut that day.

Maybe that day, I wouldn’t have felt so low, so betrayed, so worthless that the only escape route I could find was the highway of veins running down my arms.

Maybe that day, I would have mapped my route with fingertips, rather than razor blades.

Maybe then, every lost soul searching desperately through the dense, dark fog to find the light would be holding a candle to their scared, wide eyes, rather than a gun.

Maybe then, every person that ever thought the difference between life and death was too minimal to care would still be here, holding my hand, rather than flowers in their caskets.

“Think before you speak, think before you do.” We hear it all the time. But if we truly understood the impact of our mindless, rash decisions, the graves outside our homes would not be filled with those who just couldn’t take it anymore.

Your words matter. Your actions matter. Do not be so naive as to think you are the only person to ever encounter evil.

I can’t ask the world to change overnight, I can’t make the corrupt accountable. That is simply too much to ask of our imperfect human race.

Instead, all I ask is this: consider that the next time that you go to pick up that razor blade or gun, maybe you are simply following a misguided compass through this journey called life, and that maybe, just maybe, if you reach out, someone has one that points North.
